ABOUT HEALTH MISSIONS INTERNATIONAL

Our Experience

Collectively, our team has over 30 years of experience working on health care missions, in various countries with a variety of organizations. What makes a particular mission attractive to us, is the opportunity to follow up on patients and see how their lives and that of their families have changed over the years.

Many of the people whose lives we have touched have become loyal supporters of our missions, often asking us to be involved in other healthcare related work. They have become our family.

We actively participate in exchange of knowledge, teach, and learn from various medical professionals in the countries where we work.

Message from the CEO
Dr Helen A. John-Kelly

I am a Board-Certified Pediatric Gastroenterologist with a Masters in Ayurvedic Nutrition and Digestion. After completing my medical degree at Madras Medical College, India, I completed my pediatric residency at Montefiore Medical center, New York in 1994 followed by a Fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology at the Childrens Hospital Philadelphia.

For the past 30 years, I have worked with various organizations in the U.S, serving local communities through Food banks, homeless shelters and educational projects. My involvement with various International medical missions ranges from primary care services at Aida refugee camp in the West Bank to surgical missions in India, Central and South America.

Most medical non-for-profit organizations only focus on specific healthcare needs, such as what I experienced with other medical mission organizations. During those missions, I was often approached by local medical personnel and particularly families, inquiring about broader healthcare services that were outside the scope of these missions. Over the years, having seen the impact a medical mission can have on an underserved community, I recognized a void that inspired me to found Health Missions International, that would provide a broad range of medical care services based on the needs of the communities.

I believe that there should be no borders, no lines, no biases, no race, no segregation in medicine because selfless care of others knows no boundaries: this is the very essence of Health Missions International.
